Why you may have issues with your tablets

Sometimes your tablet or tablets stop working for one reason or another. The symptoms can be quite varied, however it usually boils down one or a combination of the following:

  • Your OrderMate server does not have enough resources to service tablets.
  • You have connected to the wrong WiFi network.
  • Your tablet is faulty or too old.
  • Your tablet's configuration isn't correct.

Below are several basic steps you can take that will allow you to troubleshoot the most common problems you might run into with WaiterMate tablets.

Option 1: If WaiterMate is slow

Sometimes you may find the performance of WaiterMate slower than usual. This can be due to one or more of the following:

  • The server doesn't have enough resources to service the tablets.
  • Your WiFi connection is slow or weak.
  • ServerMate is not configured correctly (You may need to contact OrderMate support to correct this issue).

Following are basic steps you can undertake that will hopefully resolve slow speeds on WaiterMate:

  1. Identify the make and model of your tablet. This will be useful in case you need to speak with support.
  2. Identify if it's the tablet itself that is slow or just WaiterMate. To do so, exit WaiterMate on the tablet and then use other apps like the Play Store/App Store or general internet browsing. If the tablet itself is slow, then it may be a faulty tablet or simply old. Contact OrderMate support if this is the case. If the tablet itself is responsive but WaiterMate is slow then proceed to the next step.
  3. Identify if it is just one tablet or all tablets (if you have multiple) that are slow. If only one is slow proceed to the next step. If multiple tablets are slow. Contact OrderMate support you may have a server related issue that needs resolving.
  4. Power down the tablet. This is usually achieved by pressing and holding down the power button until the tablet powers off. Wait 30 seconds then power it on again.
  5. If the above doesn't fix the issue then try moving closer to the Wireless Access Point or if you don't have one, closer to your modem.
  6. If the above step still doesn't solve the issue then make sure your tablet is connected to the correct WiFi. Usually this should be OMLAN1. However if you have a non standard setup you may need to contact an IT professional to determine this.
  7. If you still don't get any joy and the tablet is still slow, contact OrderMate support. You may have a configuration issue that needs looking into.

Option 2: WaiterMate won't connect

If you find sometimes that WaiterMate won't connect. It could be for the following reasons:

  • You are not connected to the WiFi.
  • You are connected to the WiFi but you are not connected to the correct network.
  • You are connected to the correct WiFi but your RD Client settings are incorrect.

Following are the steps required to rectify this issue:

  1. Identify the make and model of your tablet. This will be useful in case you need to speak with support.
  2. Make sure you WiFi is switched on. This can usually be found in the settings on the Tablet. If you are already connected proceed to the next step.
  3. Make sure you are connected to the OMLAN1 WiFi network. If you have a non-standard setup, consult an IT professional to help you determine which network you should connect to. It should be the same network range as your ORDERMATE server
  4. If WaiterMate still won't connect, then you may need to either setup RD Client on the tablet or recreate the connection in RD Client. There is an excellent guide on how to do this located here: How to setup WaiterMate on a tablet
  5. If the above still doesn't work or if you get other WaiterMate related errors please contact OrderMate support.
