Troubleshooting Serial Printers

 
Problem

Printer is not printing?
Printer is connecting to a terminal directly (serial) or through a remote serial?

Solution

  1. Is the printer turned on?
  2. Can the printer perform a self test?
  3. What is the baud rate?
  4. Does the baud rate match what is in Officemate?
  5. Run a dummyprint for the printers baud rate - does it print the com1,2,3,etc test print message? If no, check serial cable is plugged in.
  6. If the Serial cable is plugged in but you did not get a test print message (may need to hit feed to see it) plug the serial cable into a different COM port on the terminal.
  7. Update Officemate configuration to match the new COM port.
  8. run the dummy print again
  9. If there is no print still, then the fault lies with either the serial cable or the printer. Replace the serial cable. If it continue to have issues then the printer is failing.
